Wood and standing water are a bad pair, so settle that first: this is a cover, not a pot. Leave the plant in its plastic nursery pot, drop the pot inside, and the wood never sits in the runoff.
Handled that way it is a round wood bin that hangs on a wall or sits on a shelf, in a sandy brown or a deeper peru brown, and it holds whatever a small tub holds when there is no plant in it.

The small opening at 4.1 in (10.5 cm) is the size of the plastic pot a supermarket houseplant comes home in. The large at 5.5 in (14 cm) takes the next pot up. Anything with a real root ball, a snake plant or a young fig, needs a bigger vessel than either.
Care
Wipe it with a soft dry cloth and keep it away from a sink edge. If you water the plant while it is sitting inside, lift the pot out first: the water that comes through the drainage holes has nowhere to go and wood shows a ring for the rest of its life.
