Whiskey wants a heavy base and a mouth wide enough to get your nose into, and thin novelty glassware gives you neither. This one is cut glass in the Edo Kiriko tradition, worked by hand into a pattern built on fallen snow, and it holds 6.8 oz (200 ml).

Size

At 6.8 oz (200 ml) a two ounce pour sits well down the glass with room left for a large cube, which is the point of a tumbler this shape. It is not a highball: a tall drink with ice and mixer runs out of glass before it runs out of drink.

Good to know

Cutting done by hand means the pattern shifts a little from glass to glass. Order a set of six and you get six that match in style rather than six that match in stroke, which is the difference between hand cut glass and pressed glass, and the reason to buy the first over the second.

Wash it by hand in warm water and dry it with a cloth. Cut facets catch the light because they catch everything else too, and a dishwasher leaves a film in the grooves that dulls the whole pattern.
