A 6 in nursery pot drops straight in with the rim close to the top edge, which is the tidy way to use it: the plastic pot keeps the roots and the drainage, the rope keeps the look.
Good to know
The lining is the whole story. It keeps water off your floor, and it also keeps water around the roots, so a plant potted directly into the basket sits in whatever you pour in. Water the pot at the sink, let it drain, then put it back, or tip the basket out after every watering.
Off the hook it works just as well on a shelf for fruit, cosmetics or the small toys that live on the floor otherwise.
