A vase on a wall solves the hallway with nowhere to put anything. This one is a tapered length of wood, 16.1 in (41 cm) long and 1.4 in (3.5 cm) square, with a glass vial sunk into the top so the water never reaches the timber.

Natural wood, walnut and beech, in sienna or wheat.
Watertight glass vial sits inside the top.
Wall mount kit included, and you will need a drill.

The vial is the measurement that decides what you can put in it. At 0.8 in (2 cm) across it takes one stem, two at a push, and a thick woody stem such as a sunflower or a hydrangea will not go down the neck at all. Cut the stem so the flower clears the top of the wood, or it reads as a stick with a leaf behind it.

Good to know

Mounting means drilling, so it goes up once and stays where you put it. Choose the height with a stem in your hand rather than by eye: there is 16.1 in (41 cm) of wood before a flower starts, and a long stem adds most of that again above the top.

Care

Wipe the wood with a soft dry cloth. Fill the vial from a narrow jug rather than carrying the whole thing to the tap, because water run down the outside is the one thing that marks natural wood, and a dry cloth will not lift a ring back out.
