Most stems fail in a vessel that is too wide at the top, where they fan out, lean on the rim, and leave you with an arrangement that looks knocked over. This one is a metal pitcher vase, 11 in (28 cm) tall and 5.5 in (14 cm) across, deep enough to hold long stems standing without a frog or a tape grid across the mouth.

It takes dried grasses, eucalyptus, pampas, and the kind of market bouquet you would otherwise trim down to fit something shorter.

For scale, that is about the height of a wine bottle and roughly twice as wide through the body, so it holds its own on a mantel instead of disappearing behind a picture frame.

Good to know

Nothing in the spec says the inside is sealed or lined, and metal left standing in water is how you end up with a rust ring on a wood table. Use it dry, for dried and faux stems, or drop a glass jar inside it when you want fresh flowers and water.

Wipe the inside with a dry cloth rather than rinsing it out, and keep it off a wet counter. A vase this tall with a narrow footprint also tips if you load it heavy on one side, so balance the stems.
