Round Velvet Ruffle Cushion with a Center Button

Round cushions do the one thing a square cannot, which is break the grid on a sofa full of rectangles. This one is velvet, 15.75 in (40 cm) across, ruffled the whole way round the edge with a button pulled through the middle of each face.

The button is what stops it looking like a beanbag. It draws the two faces together so the velvet gathers toward the center and the ruffle stands proud at the rim instead of lying flat and sad against the seat.

Size

15.75 in (40 cm) across is about a spread hand twice over. That is large enough to hold a sofa corner on its own and small enough to sit in an armchair without pushing you forward off the seat. Behind your lower back in a dining chair it beats a square, because a round edge does not catch on the chair rail.

Care

Spot clean and never wring it. Velvet pile crushes wherever it gets wet and rubbed, and that mark is still there after it dries. Let it dry fully, then run a soft brush over it in one direction to bring the nap back up.

Good to know

Velvet shows everything: cat hair, dust, and the outline of whoever sat there last. Brushing it back takes a few seconds, but if nobody in your house is going to do that, the dark gray hides more than the dusty pink ever will.
