Hand washing keeps the braid tight. A machine cycle works if you wash it on its own, because the knot catches zippers and buttons from the rest of the load and comes out fuzzy along the ridges.

This is a decorative cushion, not a support pillow. The braid runs across the front, so the filling sits in ridges instead of a flat plane and it will not hold a neck the way a plain rectangle does. Buy it for the shape, not for the nap.
