A narrow opening holds stems upright without floral foam, and it also settles what will never fit. Three or four stems stand where you put them. A wide supermarket bunch, tied at the base, will not go in at all.

It is a ceramic vase with a folded surface pattern, sold in white, a pale steel blue and a soft pink.

Cut the stems to roughly the height of the vase again above the rim. Any longer and the whole arrangement leans, because the base is not wide enough to argue with a long lever.

Materials

Ceramic, with the folds pressed into the body rather than painted on, so the shadow moves across it as the light in the room changes. It is light for its size, which is pleasant to carry full and less pleasant on a windowsill that catches a draft.

Care

Wash the inside with a bottle brush, since a narrow neck keeps your hand out and a sponge on a stick is the only thing that reaches the bottom. Change the water every couple of days and the folds stay clean of the green ring that forms at the waterline.
