The width of the opening decides what a vase can actually hold, and it is the one number nobody checks before buying. A 1 in (3 cm) mouth takes a single stem standing straight and nothing more. A 3 in (7 cm) mouth takes a small bunch with the stems cut short. Everything else about a vase is a matter of taste.

The three shortest shapes stay below eye level across a dining table, so a conversation goes over the top of them instead of around. The cylinder at 15 in (37 cm) belongs on a console or a hearth, where nobody has to look past it. Sizes are taken by hand, so allow up to 0.8 in (2 cm) either way.

Care

Hand wash in warm water and dry the inside. Off white ceramic collects a ring at the water line, and a soft bottle brush shifts it while it is fresh. Left for a month, it stops being a ring and starts being a feature.

Good to know

One vase comes per order. The shapes are made to sit together, so if you are picturing the grouped look, three in different heights does more than a matched pair, and the tallest one should stand at the back rather than in the middle.
