Most garden stake lights sit low enough to vanish into a border by midsummer. This one runs 32.6 in (83 cm) from the ground with its stake pushed in, which puts the watering can at just under counter height and the falling lights where you can see them from a window.

Size

The can itself is small, 5.12 in (13 cm) tall and 3.9 in (9.91 cm) across. What carries the piece is the height of the stake and the length of the cascade below the spout, so leave clear ground under it rather than pushing it into the middle of a planted bed.

Good to know

A solar light is only as good as the daylight its panel gets, and December daylight is the short kind. Give it open sky for a few hours and it runs through the evening. Tuck it under a hedge or a north facing eave and it manages a brief showing before it quits.

The cascade also needs something dark behind it. Against a lit window it disappears. Against a fence, a hedge or an unlit lawn it reads exactly as it is meant to, which is water made of light.

Care

Wipe the solar panel clear of leaves, dust and frost. A film of dirt on the panel costs more evening runtime than an overcast day does.
