Fifteen combinations of shape and color is a lot of choice for one shelf, and the usual mistake is picking three at random and hoping they read as a set. Take one color across the three shapes, or one shape in three colors. Either looks decided. A scatter of both looks like a sample tray.

Good to know

Three vases in a row at even spacing looks like a retail display. Push two of them together and set the third a hand's width away, and the same three pieces look like somebody lives there.

Porcelain takes a knock badly at the rim, which is the one part that never sits flush against anything. Keep them back from the edge of an open shelf if there is a cat in the house with opinions about ornaments.

Care

Wipe with a damp cloth. For fresh flowers, stand a small glass inside and change the water in the glass, which keeps the inside of the vase dry and saves you fishing out a slimy stem later.
