Rattan drinks water, which is awkward for something shaped like a vase. Treat this one as a dry vessel and the problem goes away: pampas, dried eucalyptus, wheat, faux stems, or a glass jar dropped inside when you want fresh flowers in it.

Good to know

Dried arrangements need more stems than fresh ones to look full, because nothing wilts or droops to fill the gaps. Buy about twice what looks right in the shop and you will get it in one trip.

Keep it away from a radiator and out of a bathroom. Cane splits when it dries out completely and swells when it stays damp, and neither one reverses once the weave has loosened.

Care

Dust with a dry paintbrush, working along the weave rather than across it. If it picks up a mark, use a barely damp cloth and then a dry one straight after.
