Condensation runs down the outside of a glass and pools under the base, which is where the ring on a wood table comes from. A soft mat with an edge holds that water instead of letting it spread.
This one is silicone, shaped as a rainbow arch, 5.9 in (15 cm) across and 3.6 oz (102 g) on the scale, in six solid colors.

Good to know
Silicone grips in both directions. It will not slide across a table, and a cold glass will occasionally lift it off the table on the way to your mouth, which is the trade you make for a mat that stays put.
Care
Rinse under the tap and dry it flat. Silicone attracts dust and hair the moment it dries, so a drawer suits it better than the counter.
