A bookshelf lit from the ceiling goes flat: the light drops from above and every spine sits in its own shadow. One small source at shelf level fixes that, and this one does the job as an object rather than as a fixture.

The sculpture is an eagle in cast resin, textured to read as dark volcanic rock, with amber light coming up through the channels between the feathers.

Good to know

Accent light only. It puts amber on the wall behind it and covers about a foot of shelf around it, and it will not light a page. Keep a proper lamp in the room and let this one handle the atmosphere.

Care

Blow the dust out of the deep texture with a can of compressed air, the kind sold for keyboards. A cloth packs dust further into the grooves instead of lifting it.
