Drainage holes decide what a planter can actually do. This one has them, so a succulent or a small houseplant goes straight in with soil and the roots never sit in a puddle. That is the difference between a planter and a pot that slowly kills things.

Those drainage holes need somewhere to drain. Stand it on a saucer, a tile or a tray before you water it, or the first watering leaves a ring on the shelf that outlasts the plant. For fresh cut stems instead, slide a small glass inside and treat the face as a cover.

Care

Wipe the face rather than soaking it, and keep it out of a hard freeze on a balcony. Resin holds paint well and holds soil splash just as well, so a damp cloth around the cheeks every few weeks keeps it looking asleep rather than neglected.
