Single-line drawing, bent in iron and stood on end. It reads as a face from the front and as a plain curve from the side, which is the trick the whole piece runs on. It comes as a full face, 10.6 in (27 cm) at its longest, or a half face at 12.6 in (32 cm).

The half face sits on a 5.5 in (14 cm) square footprint, so it takes about as much shelf as a mug and reaches a good deal higher. The full face spreads instead, running 10.6 in (27 cm) at its widest point, which is a mantel or a console rather than a crowded bookshelf.

A line has almost no surface to steady it, so both of these want a flat, level spot and some clear air around them to read as a shape rather than a tangle of wire. Black iron shows dust along the top edge of every curve, which is a two minute job with a dry cloth and a much longer one with a damp cloth. If the hat stand idea is what sold you, measure the hat first: a 5.5 in (14 cm) footprint gives a brim something to perch on, not something to sit down over.
