These are silhouettes, not likenesses. The dog comes down to a tail length or a pair of ears, so what you are picking is a shape that reads like your dog from across a room rather than a carving of the animal. Bought on that understanding it lands well. Bought expecting a portrait, it will not.

Bare wood moves with the room it lives in. Keep them off a windowsill in direct sun and away from a radiator, because unfinished wood on a hot dry shelf checks along the grain after a couple of winters and those splits do not close up again.

They stand freely and nothing holds them down, so on a narrow floating shelf keep them toward the back where a slammed door cannot walk them off the front edge.
