Sconces come in pairs because one on its own reads as a mistake: a mirror lit from the left and dark on the right, a bed with one bright side. This is a set of two, which is the count that actually resolves a wall.

A wireless sconce is a decision about where light sits rather than about how much of it you get. Mounted either side of a headboard, a pair puts light at eye level, which is the height a ceiling fitting never manages and the reason a room lit only from above always feels like a corridor.

They earn their keep in rooms where the wiring is in the wrong place: a rented hallway, a chimney breast, either side of a bathroom mirror that has one bulb over it. Anywhere the alternative is running a cable across a wall you do not own.

Two sconces will not light a room on their own. They handle the edges and the corners and leave the middle to a floor lamp or a ceiling fitting, so buy them for the wall they go on rather than for the room they go in.
