Shadow lamps only work in the dark, and they only work near something. Put this within a foot of a wall with the ceiling light off and the branches land as a pattern you can actually read. Put it in the middle of a lit room and it is a small warm glow, nothing more.

It is a compact glass and resin lamp built as a bare tree, lit from within, so the branch shapes fall across whatever surface is behind it.

Battery power buys you placement. It goes on a bookshelf nowhere near a socket, on a windowsill, on a mantel, in all the spots where a corded lamp means a cable down the wall. It costs you the other way: batteries run down, and a lamp lit every evening will want them changed.

The pattern sharpens as you move it toward a surface and softens as you pull it away. That is the only adjustment there is. No focus, no lens, just the distance between the branches and the wall.

This is decorative light. It will not light a room, and on a nightstand it does the job of a night light rather than a reading lamp.
