A narrow mouth over a wide base is the shape that holds a bunch upright. Stems drop in, the neck gathers them, and the base keeps the whole thing from going over, which is the opposite of what happens when you put six tulips in a straight sided tumbler.

Molded colored glass in white, pink, aquamarine or red, opaque enough that you read the color of the vase rather than the water inside it.

That 2.2 in mouth takes a small handful of stems and no more. A wrapped supermarket bouquet goes in two of these, not one, and at 8.1 in tall the vase wants stems cut so that roughly half their length shows above the rim.

Good to know

Short and heavy at the base makes it stable on a side table, and it is a poor centerpiece for a long dining table where guests look past it rather than over it. Colored glass also hides the water line, so check the level by lifting rather than looking.

Care

Rinse between bunches before the residue ring sets at the water line. A narrow neck defeats a sponge: warm water, a spoon of rice, a swirl, then rinse and drain it upside down.
