Water is the whole point and the whole problem. Cuttings root in it, then it clouds, and by the second week the jar on the sill looks like something nobody has dealt with. This one at least gives the water a frame: a heart shaped glass vessel carried in the outline of a bent iron cat.

Materials

Iron frame, clear glass vessel. Iron and standing water are not friends, so wipe drips off the metal rather than letting them dry there, and refill over a sink instead of pouring in place.

Good to know

This holds water, not soil. There is no drainage and no depth for a root ball, so a cutting lives here until the roots are an inch or two long, then moves to a pot. Treat it as a stage in the process rather than a home, and it earns its shelf space.

Care

Change the water every few days rather than topping it off. Rinse the glass when you do, since the film that builds on the inside curve is what turns a clear vessel cloudy for good.
