Wax needs heat and time before it does anything. Switch this on and the core inside the skull sits there looking like a lump, and only later does the first blob lift off the base and start climbing past the eye sockets.
The shell is molded resin, split with fissures and hollowed at the eyes, and every bit of light comes from the lava chamber behind it. It belongs in a room that already leans dark: a bedside table, a game shelf, the corner you light on purpose.

Good to know
Give it a long stretch of running before you judge it, since a quick flick of the switch shows you nothing but a still lump. Keep it off a cold windowsill and out of direct sun: both work against the heat the wax depends on. Move it only once it has cooled, because a hot chamber jostled mid flow clouds up and stays cloudy for the evening.
Care
Wipe the resin shell with a dry cloth. Water sits in those fissures for days, and the fissures are directly over the light.
