Blown Glass Loop Vase for Plant Cuttings

Glass bent into a closed loop has one advantage over a jar: the curve holds the stem at an angle, so the node stays under water while the leaf stays out of it. You fill it through the opening at the top and drop the cutting in.

Blown borosilicate glass, tinted through the body, in eight colors including clear, green, brown and black. Empty on a windowsill it still reads as an object, which matters during the weeks between cuttings.

Size

5 in (13 cm) across and 4 in (10 cm) tall, about the footprint of a coffee mug. That suits a pothos or monstera node, a philodendron tip, a sprig of mint. A long rose stem turns the whole thing into a lever and tips it over.

Care

Change the water every few days rather than topping it off, since roots sitting in old water go brown at the tips. A bottle brush will not follow the bend: put warm water and a spoon of dry rice inside, swirl it against the film, then rinse.
