A wide, broken-edged opening does one thing to a bouquet: stems fall outward and settle against the rim instead of standing where you put them. Work with that using dried grasses, pampas, or a few bare branches, and leave the tight round posy for a vase with a narrow neck. These are off white ceramic vases shaped like a cracked egg, made in three sizes.

Every size is wider than it is tall, which is worth picturing before you order. The small stands at about coffee mug height and reads as an object on a shelf rather than a vase. The large at 9 in (22 cm) tall and 11 in (28 cm) wide wants a surface of its own: a console, or the middle of a dining table, not a crowded windowsill.

Care

Wipe it with a dry or barely damp cloth and work the dust out of the rough rim with a soft brush. For fresh stems, stand a small jar of water down inside the shell and lift the jar out when the water needs changing.
