Size
58 in (147 cm) of drop is roughly shoulder to ankle on an adult. Shorter than that and a cloak looks borrowed; longer and you find out which staircases you can handle. Expect the hem to brush the floor if you are on the shorter side, which is what you want in a photo and a nuisance in a crowded room.
Good to know
A cloak is a costume piece before it is a coat. It will do a lot in a photograph and very little against a cold night, so put a real jacket under it if the party moves outdoors. The hood also slides back the moment you turn your head fast, so pin it at the shoulder if you plan to dance in it.
