Skulls run around the entire body of this vase, front, back and both sides, so there is no wrong way to turn it on a shelf. It is cast resin with a glossy finish, and it works as a shelf object on its own as readily as it does with stems in it.

The gloss is doing real work here: it catches a lamp along every brow and cheekbone, which is why the sculpting reads from across a room instead of only up close.
