Garden ornaments are mostly polite, which is why they vanish into the border after a fortnight and nobody looks at them again. This one is a 5 in (13 cm) resin gnome caught with his trousers down, and he does not vanish into anything.

Size

At 5 in (13 cm) he is about the height of a coffee mug, which makes him a joke somebody finds rather than a statue you announce. Put him at path level, half hidden by planting, where a visitor spots him on the way past. On a plinth he just looks small.

Care

Wipe him down with a damp cloth at the start of the season. Resin holds up outdoors better than plaster and worse than stone, so bring him under cover for a hard frost and keep him off the strip where a mower throws grit.

Good to know

This is an adult joke standing in a flower bed. It lands well on a patio among people who chose it and less well beside a front door where the postman and your mother arrive at the same rate.
