Stems go in through a 1.18 in (3 cm) mouth, which takes one or two at a time and never a fistful. That is the right constraint for propagation: one cutting per bulb, watched properly, beats six crowded into a jar where you cannot tell which one is rotting.

Each bulb is about the size of an orange, wide in the belly and narrow at the neck, which is what holds a stem upright instead of letting it slide down the side. The staggered pair puts one bulb above the other, so a shallow shelf takes two cuttings in the footprint of one.
Care
Rotate a bulb off the bar to pour the old water out, rinse it, and set it back. Doing this weekly is the difference between roots and a green film on the inside of the glass.
Good to know
Soft stemmed plants are the ones that reward this: African violets, tradescantia, rosemary, umbrella plant, peace lily. Woody cuttings take months in water and often rot before they root, so they belong in a pot of grit rather than in here.
