A vase 3 in (8 cm) wide across the body takes one stem, maybe three. Load it like a florist and it goes over, because the water sits high and the footprint is narrow. These are built for the other job: a single branch, a few stems of eucalyptus, or nothing at all on a shelf where the silhouette does the work.

The tallest stands a head above a wine bottle. The 7 in (17 cm) shape is a soda can with a couple of inches to spare, and it is the one that looks undersized when it arrives on its own, which is exactly why these shapes are drawn to be grouped.

Good to know

Nothing here swallows a supermarket bouquet still in its sleeve. Split the bunch across two shapes, or cut the stems short and use the 6 in (15 cm) width. Ceramic this narrow also tips if a cat leans on it, so keep the tall ones back from a shelf edge.

Care

Rinse with warm water and a bottle brush. A hand does not fit down a 3 in (8 cm) body, and flower water dries into a ring that only a brush reaches.
