The first thirty seconds on a mat like this are unpleasant, and anyone who owns one will tell you the same. You start in socks, you work up to bare feet, and after a week you can stand on it while the kettle boils.

It is a soft mat set with molded plastic points, and it rolls up to go in a drawer or under the couch between uses.

How to use it

Start with socks on, standing still, and keep it short. Move to bare feet once the points stop being the only thing you can think about. Rocking heel to toe spreads the pressure across the whole sole; standing dead still concentrates it in the arch, which is where most people give up on day one.

Good to know

Treat this as a comfort tool, not a treatment. If you have diabetes, neuropathy, an open sore, or any loss of feeling in your feet, stay off it and ask a doctor first. A hard floor makes the points sharper and a rug underneath takes the edge off, but neither changes what it is: a mat covered in plastic points that you stand on.
