A flat figure like this wants a background. Against a white wall on an open shelf it holds its outline; in front of a row of book spines it disappears into the pattern. Give it the end of a shelf, a mantel corner, or a console beside a lamp, where the light rakes across it.

Good to know

This is decoration and nothing else: it holds no stem and takes no water, so if you want a leaf that moves in a draft, buy the plant. Metal also shows every fingerprint along the flat of the blade. Dust it with a dry cloth and keep a damp one away from the base, where water sits and marks.
