The mouth is what decides this one. Three of the six open 1 in (2.5 cm) or less, which is a single stem or two thin ones, and only the dark olive piece opens to 2.4 in (6 cm), wide enough for a small bunch.

They are hand painted ceramic with a satin finish and a cutout in the body, and every color is a different height and shape.

The tallest, at 10 in (25.5 cm), stands a little under a wine bottle, which is about 12 in (30 cm). The two short wide ones stay below the eye line on a dining table, which is where a vase belongs if you want to see the person across from you.

What goes in them

A 0.8 in (2 cm) mouth takes one stem, or two if they are thin: a ranunculus, a sprig of eucalyptus, one rose with the lower leaves stripped. Nothing woody. If you buy flowers by the bunch, buy the dark olive one, whose 2.4 in (6 cm) mouth is the only one that takes a handful without a fight.

Care

Rinse it and wipe it with a damp cloth. Hand painted satin paint dislikes dishwashers and abrasive pads, both of which flatten the sheen. Change the water every couple of days, or the narrow necks go cloudy where you cannot reach them.
