Where they work
The illusion needs height and distance. Over a dining table with a tall ceiling above it, the lines disappear and the candles hover. In a low room with the overhead light on, you see every line and the effect goes with it. Hang them where people look up, not where they walk into them.
Good to know
They run on batteries and hang without cords, which is the whole trick and also the cost of it: when one dims, you take that candle down to deal with it. Hang them where a step stool reaches, and count on doing the round again in a few weeks.
