Nursery pots come in standard diameters, and a decorative pot that ignores them leaves you repotting a plant that was perfectly happy where it was. This one is sized to take a grow pot straight in, at 3.1 in (8 cm), 4.3 in (11 cm) or 5.5 in (14 cm) across.

5.5 in (14 cm) is the biggest of the three, roughly the diameter of a side plate. That covers a desk plant, a herb, a young pothos. None of them takes a floor plant, and a fiddle leaf fig in the largest would be standing in something the size of a cereal bowl.

Good to know

The stopper is there for the days the pot sits on wood. Take it out over a sink when you water properly, put it back once the pot has finished draining, and skip the version where it stays in through a soak and the roots sit in the runoff.

With sixteen colors on the list, choose the pot after you know the plant. A dark glaze vanishes behind anything big and leafy, and a pale one gets lost entirely against a white shelf.
