A taper burns down and drips, and a holder with nothing under it turns that into a job for a scraper and a hairdryer. This one is ceramic with a broad base under the cup to catch the wax, and a loop handle to move it while it is lit.

Good to know
Taper candles are not all cut to one diameter. A standard dinner taper seats in a cup like this, a thicker church candle will not, and forcing one is how a handmade piece cracks at the rim. If a taper sits loose instead, a wrap of foil around the base or a few drops of melted wax will hold it upright.
Handmade also means the glaze pools differently on every piece. Two bought together will read as a pair from across a table and as siblings up close, which is the point of buying handmade and the reason to skip it if you want them identical.
