A hook fails in one of two ways: it pulls off the wall, or it sticks out so little that anything hung on it slides straight back off. This one is a small solid wood block with a brass peg through the face, finished in wax oil so the grain still reads.

A face of 2.4 in (6.1 cm) square is about a wall switch plate, so a row of them reads as a line of small blocks rather than as hardware. The 1.6 in (4.1 cm) it stands out takes a coat loop, a tote strap or a folded hand towel, and it is not deep enough to hold a bunched winter parka by the collar.

Good to know
The tape option is fine for a hand towel, a cap or a tote with a book in it. A wet bath towel or a wool coat wants the screws, because adhesive gives up slowly rather than all at once, and you find out when the hook is on the floor with the coat on top of it.
Care
Wax oil is a finish you top up, not one you strip. A wipe of furniture oil once a year keeps the grain from going gray, and it matters most on the hook by a front door where wet sleeves land on it every winter.
