The tower is solid decor and nothing in it lights up. The sand runs one fixed interval with no way to shorten it, so treat it as a rhythm for a pot of tea, a stretch or a phone call rather than as a timer you set for a task.
Care
Dust the tower with a dry brush instead of a cloth: the railings and the window cutouts catch lint and hold it. Keep it off a sunny sill as well, since a bronze finish on a small sculpture fades unevenly, and you notice it first on the side facing the window.
