A weighted tuning fork is built to be felt rather than heard. The two cylinders on the tines slow the vibration down and push the energy into the handle, which is why this kind gets pressed against a surface while a plain fork gets held in the air.

This one is aluminum alloy, tuned to 128 Hz, 7.9 in (20 cm) long and 3 oz (85 g) in the hand. A mallet comes with it, which is the part people forget to order separately and then improvise badly.

Good to know

Strike it on the mallet or on the soft edge of your palm, never on a table, a door frame or another fork. Metal against a hard edge nicks the tine, and a nicked tine drifts off pitch permanently.

This is an instrument for a practice, not a device that treats anything. Use it to mark the start of a session, to steady a breath, or to give your hands something to do at the end of a long day. If something hurts, see someone who can look at it.

Care

Wipe the tines after a session, since skin oil dulls the finish where you grip it. Keep it out of a drawer full of hard tools, and store the mallet head away from anything that will flatten it.
