The straight edge goes against the door and the curve faces the walk. That is the only orientation that works with a half moon mat, and it is also why the long side is the measurement that matters when you order.
Polyester surface with an embossed pattern, rubber backing underneath. Medium runs 19.7 x 31.5 in (50 x 80 cm), large runs 23.6 x 35.4 in (60 x 90 cm), in dark gray or brown.

Measure the door leaf, not the doorway. A standard single front door sits close to the medium at 31.5 in (80 cm), and the large at 35.4 in (90 cm) reaches past the frame on both sides, which is what you want if people step off the mat before they finish wiping.
Care
Shake it out, vacuum it, or rinse it with a hose and stand it on edge to dry. Polyester holds water in the pile, so a mat left flat on a shaded step after a rinse stays damp for a day.
Good to know
Under a covered porch this earns its keep. On an exposed step with no roof over it, sun and standing water will take the color down over a season or two. Nothing about a rubber backed mat likes being permanently wet.
