Satin Ceramic Vase in Moon, Round, Open or Pot

The mouth of a vase settles the arrangement more than its height does. At 2 in (5 cm) across, the round shape holds a handful of stems bolt upright with no frog and no tape. At 2.8 in (7 cm), the pot shape lets the same stems fall open into a loose spray.

Size

None of these is a tall vase. The pot shape at 7.5 in (19 cm) is the tallest, roughly the height of a wine glass, and the open shape at 3.9 in (10 cm) is closer to a teacup. Cut accordingly: a florist bunch straight out of its wrapper will be about twice too long for any of them.

Good to know

The moon shape is wider than it is tall and reads as a disc on a shelf, which makes it the one to buy if you want an object rather than a flower holder. The open shape is the same idea at a smaller scale. If you are buying a vase to actually put flowers in, the round and the pot are the two that do that job.

Care

The surface is nonporous, so warm water and a wipe clears a water line. The grainy texture holds soap film if you use dish soap and rinse only once, and on a satin finish that dries as a dull patch you will see from across the room.
