Good to know

Drop the nursery pot inside, lift it out over the sink on watering day, let it drain for a minute, put it back. That routine costs you thirty seconds a week and it saves the roots. Potting straight into the ceramic works too, as long as you water in small amounts and accept that you cannot see what is collecting at the bottom.

The steel frame is the part that decides where this goes. It raises the pot off the wood, which stops a ring forming under a damp base, and it also makes the whole thing easier to tip than a pot that sits flat on its own foot. Keep it back from the edge of a desk.

Care

Wipe the ceramic with a damp cloth. Dry the steel rather than leaving it wet, because galvanized finishes take on a dull white bloom wherever water sits and it does not come back off.
