Five stems is the awkward number for a vase: too many for a bud vase, not enough to fill a jug. It suits a narrow-necked bottle, where the blooms sit close together and hold each other upright instead of falling open.

Good to know
- At 7 inches across, one stem fills a small vase on its own. Two make a centerpiece, five make a statement you cannot see across.
- Bend the stem near the base rather than at the neck. The neck is where a faux flower creases, and a crease does not come out.
