Backflow smoke needs still air more than it needs a good burner, and most people find that out with the window open. This one is built as a hexagonal pavilion in stainless steel, ceramic and glass, so the smoke falls through an open structure rather than down the side of a solid block.

Care

Smoke leaves an oily brown film, and glass shows it first. Wipe the panels every week or two with a damp cloth and a dry one after, and run a cotton swab into the corners where the frame meets the glass, because that is where the residue settles and stays.

Put it out of the traffic. A doorway, a fan or an open window pulls the falling smoke apart and you get a haze instead of a stream, which is the usual reason a burner like this gets called disappointing. A side table against a wall does far more for the effect than anything you can buy.

Set it on something you can wipe. Residue lands on the surface under it, and on untreated wood it does not come back out.
