Shallow pots dry out first, and this one stands 3.9 in (10 cm) tall, which puts it squarely in succulent country. It is a glazed white ceramic planter shaped like a cat mid stretch, 5.7 in (14.5 cm) wide, with the planting cavity across its back and a drainage hole underneath.

Plant something that trails and the greenery tumbles down over the flank, which is the whole reason for the shape.

Little soil means little water held, so match the plant to the pot rather than the other way round. Succulents, string of pearls, and burro's tail are right at home here. A fern or a peace lily will wilt between waterings and blame you for it.

There is a drainage hole and no saucer listed, which is a combination that leaves rings on wood. Set it on a small dish, or water it at the sink and let it drain before it goes back on the shelf.
