A flat cheese board has one flaw and every host knows it: the olives roll into the salami by the second glass. This one is carved as a sea turtle with the shell divided into compartments, so each thing stays where you put it.

Care

Hand wash and stand it up to dry. A wooden board in a dishwasher warps at its thin points, and on this one the thin points are the flippers and the head. When the grain starts looking chalky, rub in food grade mineral oil and leave it overnight.

Good to know

Do not cut on it. Carved compartments and a knife edge fight each other, so slice on a plain board and arrange on this one. Soft cheese parks itself in the carved corners too, so give the brie a flat spot and save the wells for anything that rolls.
