A nightstand already holds a phone, a glass of water and whatever you are half way through, so anything else on it has to earn the space. This one earns it after dark: a mermaid reaching up for a crescent moon that lights from inside, painted in teal and gold on a round base.

The glow is warm and yellow, closer to a candle than to a bulb, and it comes off the moon itself rather than through a shade. Put it on a shelf and the light lands on the wall behind it.

Care

Dust the deep cuts in the tail and the hair with a dry brush. A damp cloth catches on painted edges and takes color off the high points over time.

This is a mood light. The moon throws enough glow to cross a bedroom without stubbing a toe and nowhere near enough to read small print by, so keep the reading lamp where it is.

It needs a USB port within cable reach, which on most nightstands means sharing with the phone charger already there.
