Electric Latte Art Pen for Cocoa and Cinnamon

Cocoa shaken through a stencil lands in one shape and one shape only, and the stencil has to sit on the foam to do it. This lays the powder down in a line instead, so you can write a name across a flat white and stop where you meant to stop.

It is a handheld battery pen that dispenses fine powder onto foam, cake tops and plated desserts. You load the head with cocoa, cinnamon, matcha, crushed sugar or paprika, then press and hold the button to draw.

Size

At 5.6 in (14.2 cm) long it is a marker pen in the hand, and at 1.0 in (2.5 cm) thick it is wide enough to steer from the fingers rather than the wrist. That thickness is what you want for control on a surface the size of a cappuccino, where the whole drawing happens inside three inches.

Good to know

The drawing only holds on foam dense enough to carry it. Microfoam off a steam wand or a thick cap of whipped cream takes the powder and keeps the line. The loose, bubbly foam on a drip coffee swallows it within seconds, and the design is gone before you get the photograph.

Powder cakes as soon as it meets steam. Fill the head dry, and empty and brush it out at the end of a session instead of leaving it loaded overnight.

It does not froth milk and it does not make the foam. It decorates what is already in the cup.
