A metal frame does not hold water, so the glass tube inside it is the part that does the work. It slides in through the top opening, takes the water and the stems, and lifts straight back out when the water turns.

Both frames come in shorter than a wine bottle, which keeps them under the sightline across a dinner table. On a desk the geometric one sits wider and steadier; the lantern gives a stem more height to fall over from.
Care
Slide the tube out and rinse it every few days. Water left in a narrow glass tube greens up inside a week, and the frame hides it until it is a film.
Good to know
The tube is narrow. Three or four stems, a handful of grasses or a fern cutting sit well in it; a shop bouquet does not. Heavy headed flowers rest their weight on the frame and drop petals down inside it, where a hand does not reach.
