I write the Journal at HollowMade.

My own place is small. Top floor, one good window, not much wall. Everything in it has had to earn its spot, and that is the whole test I apply here: not whether a piece is having a moment, but whether you will still want to look at it in three years, in a room you actually live in.

What I go for

Objects with a bit of nerve. A vase shaped like a face. A lamp that makes someone ask a question before they have taken their coat off. I have no patience for decor that apologises for being there.

And then, right beside it, a plain oatmeal throw that does nothing clever at all except make the sofa better. A room needs both. The pieces that talk, and the pieces that let you rest.

No lists of thirty products. If I write about five things, it is because I would live with all five.
